chan1.org — Ordinary people cannot conceive of the Buddha's wisdom. Even Arahats are unable to comprehend such wisdom. For an ordinary person to try to fathom what the Buddha knows would be like trying to light up Mt. Sumeru with fireflies. Ordinary people rely on the knowledge that they have acquired; thus they can only see the material world of forms. The cannot see beyond it. Their thinking is already separate from reality. Such activity leads nowhere; it will produce nothing -- like the blossoming of imaginary flowers.
